Mark, London Marathon 2026 & London to Brighton Bike Ride

Fundraising in Gerogie’s name meant a lot to both my wife Jenny and me. We didn’t know who ARC were before we needed their help, and they were there for us when we needed them most. After Georgie was born sleeping at 17 weeks on the 26th April 2025, we left devastated from the hospital the next day and went back home, and turning on the TV, the London Marathon was on, the date for 2026 – 26th April… I felt a compulsion to run to raise awareness and money for a great charity.

I also signed up for the London Brighton 2025 bike ride, which I completed in Sep 2025, raising £1304. I will always remember the guy who kindly patted me on the back and said well done as I got up Ditchling Beacon without stopping. Undoubtedly, he heard me saying ‘For Georgie’ all the way up that climb.

The day of the Marathon was hot, too hot for some, trains were cancelled and running just to get to the start line, but I was off! 4 hours, 4 mins and 16 seconds later, waved on by thousands, supported by everyone, I made it to the end and raised over £5500. Although I finished, the work of ARC will continue, and support many thousands more every year, and I’m grateful that I could help contribute to their work in Georgie’s memory.

P.S of course I entered the ballot for next year’s Marathon!
